Blue Bird – A Pioneering Builder of School Buses in the USA
Primarily known as Blue Bird Body Company, Blue Bird Corporation is a designer and manufacturer of school buses in America. The bus builder has headquarters in Fort Valley, Georgia and it primarily builds school buses. However, it also builds different types of other buses including motorhomes, transport buses, and specialty vehicles like mobile police command centers, and mobile libraries. At present, Blue Bird is focused on its product line-upof school buses, school pupil activity buses (SPAB) and specialty vehicle derivatives.
Blue Bird's core business principles are quality, safety, durability, and serviceability. Since they build school buses, they ensure that every element of their bus is designed keeping the children in mind. Since 1927, they have been focusing on improving both safety and the comfort of children riding in their buses.
The Blue Bird School Bus Foundation Inc. (the "Foundation") is a nonprofit organization with the purpose of enhancing charitable services in the area where we work and reside. It is based in Georgia. The Foundation's mission is to support certain charity organizations and causes as defined by the Board of Directors.
More specifically, the Foundation aspires to designate different organizations on a semi-annual basis to be sponsored by the Foundation and will act as a container for charitable gifts, grants, and contributions. The Foundation does this in an effort to promote partnerships, raise awareness of the charity's mission, and continuously monitor how money is being distributed.
Blue Bird builds Type A, C, and D school buses that come in a full range of customizations and combinations. Blue Bird Corporation has been setting standards for the industry since 1927 with its cutting-edge design and production skills. Through Blue Bird Capital Services, Blue Bird also offers complete financial solutions.
In order to focus only on the manufacture of buses, A.L. Luce closed his car business and established the Blue Bird Body Company in Fort Valley, Georgia, in 1932. Blue Bird, which remained a family-owned business into the early 1990s, had a number of ownership changes in the 2000s before becoming a publicly traded corporation in February 2015.
Traditionally, school buses like those made by Blue Bird are a combination of pieces made internally to the company's specifications and parts bought from various other sources. In most cases, these two types of elements are then put together to create bodies that can be installed onto chassis that are frequently versions of those used in a variety of vehicle applications. The Blue Bird plant in Fort Valley, Georgia, produced parts used by all of the company's sites to build automobiles in addition to its role in vehicle assembly. In a nearby building in Fort Valley, Blue Bird Wanderlodges were created, along with Wanderlodge Wayside Park, a motor home park with shade provided by trees for Wanderlodges that needed maintenance.
