From Campers to Composite Buses: The Legacy of Diamond Coach
In the annals of transportation history, few stories resonate as profoundly as that of Diamond Coach. From its modest origins crafting campers in the 1950s to its current status as a premier manufacturer of composite buses, Diamond Coach's journey is one of resilience, innovation, and unwavering commitment to quality.

A Humble Beginning
The tale of Diamond Coach begins in the 1950s, with Eldo J. (Bud) Coons and his brother building campers in Pomona, CA, under the banner of "Coons Custom Coach." In 1957, driven by a desire to expand their enterprise, Bud relocated to Oswego, KS, and established a new branch office. Two years later, the "Dreamer Coach," the very first camper, rolled off the production line, signalling the dawn of a new era.

Diversification and Innovation
By 1962, the Coons brothers had acquired the Scotsman Trailer Company in Coffeyville, KS, and set their sights on manufacturing fiberglass motorhomes. Just three years later, Diamond Coach unveiled its maiden motorhome to the public, marking a significant milestone in its evolution.

However, the tumultuous 1970s oil and gas crisis posed challenges to the company's motorhome-centric business model. Faced with reduced demand, Diamond Coach made a strategic pivot, diversifying its product line to include people-moving vehicles, or buses. This move laid the foundation for Diamond Coach's transformation into a multifaceted transportation solutions provider.

A Legacy of Excellence
Throughout its storied history, Diamond Coach has experienced changes in ownership, including acquisitions by the Borg-Warner Corporation in 1968 and subsequent repurchase by Coons in 1973. However, it was under the stewardship of Dick Seyboldt and Wayne Lowe, who acquired the company in 1988, that Diamond Coach truly flourished.

In 1989, Diamond Coach made a bold decision to exit the motorhome market and focus exclusively on manufacturing composite buses. Under Dick's leadership spanning 28 years, the company garnered a loyal customer following by consistently delivering on customer expectations.

The Diamond Difference
Since 1989, Diamond Coach has been synonymous with manufacturing rust-free, impact-resistant buses renowned for their superior resale value. These buses, available in several models accommodating 16-28 passengers, are celebrated for their smooth, quiet ride and versatility. Used in diverse industries such as healthcare, hospitality, and transportation, Diamond buses have earned a reputation for reliability and durability.

Today, Diamond Coach continues to uphold its legacy of excellence, with a nationwide team of independent dealers marketing its products. Headquartered in Oswego, KS, and part of the B12 Transportation Group of Kansas City, MO, Diamond Coach stands as a testament to the power of innovation, adaptability, and unwavering dedication to customer satisfaction.
